Chapter one

The beginning
*
A man clad in all black impaled Ryuuza Kasane with a katana. As the blade pierced his body a wave of black energy erupted from the wound pushing the strange man back and causing the katana to leave Ryuuza’s body blood begins to pour out of the wound. When the dark recedes Ryuuza is clad in the same black clothes as the man in front of him had been a second ago and a sword is sheathed on his back. “What have you done to me? What the hell are you?” Ryuuza asks the man in front of him who is now clad in pure white.*******

“I am a Shinigami from the soul society. My name is Myzunai Ryukaiza” Myzunai said suddenly coughing up blood from a severe internal wound. “I awakened the sealed power within you as well as giving you the last of mine. I need you to give this report to the men who come to check up on me in a few days.” As he finishes his sentence he coughs up yet more blood making a pool of red liquid on the ground in front of him.*

“And why would I do that you just impaled me with your sword?”

“Because I can see in your soul and it yearns to help those in need.”

“Fine ill give it to them”

“Thank you Ryuuza. Here is a picture of the man I want you to give the report to.” Myzunai hands Ryuuza a torn and faded photograph of a man dressed in a haori covering the same distinctive black outfit that denoted a Shinigami along with a cloak with a strange symbol on the back of it. “That is my captain. He leads squad 10. The symbol on his back is the symbol of the 10th squad.” As Ryuuza takes the picture from the man the Shinigami suddenly collapses. Ryuuza goes to check his pulse but he was already dead.*

Three days after the strange man wearing all black had handed him the report of his findings a group of men radiating the same energy as Myzunai appeared in front of Ryuuza but unlike the Shinigami they wore regular clothing. “Are you the one called Ryuuza Kasane?” the man in front asked.

“Yes my name is Ryuuza why do you want to know?” as soon as Ryuuza finishes his question each member of the group pulled a small circular capsule from their pockets. They simultaneously swallowed the capsules and their bodies fell to the ground yet they still stood in front of him but now they were clothed in the same attire as the Shinigami from three days previous. “Who are you people?”

“My name is Shiha Aiasawa and I am Captain of Squad 10.”

“I believe I have a package for you Captain.” Ryuuza pulls the report from out of his bag and hands it to Shiha.*“Myzunai wanted me to give you this report.”

“I see so he really is dead and not just hiding.” Shiha said. Suddenly Ryuuza collapses and white foam begins to pour from his face “what the hell. What is going on?” in an instant all the people around Shiha begin to collapse and bonelike masks begin to form over their faces. “Is this hollowification?” just as suddenly as it had begun the threat was over and only Shiha was left standing.

Chapter 2

The souls cry’s out for vengeance


Shiha Aiasawa walks to the graveyard medical center upon entering he leaves his soul slayer at the door. He enters the one occupied room and sees that its occupant is awake and moving about. “Ryuuza I see your feeling better.” Shiha said.

“Yea I am, good afternoon Shiha.” Ryuuza looked behind him at his friend as he sees his face he asks, “What’s wrong Shiha has something happened?”

“Its been 10 years since that day hasn’t it Ryuuza since that unmentionable day that my entire squad was wiped out leaving only me and you alive, and you with that scar of the soul.” Shiha looked around the room “that day that so many innocent people lost their lives for no reason. How did you survive you a mere human?”

“Shiha… you know that I had the strength of two inside of me just as you had the power of many keeping you striving for the future. It was no mistake that both of us survived that day.” Ryuuza walks over to his friend “Shiha if you give up now their death will be for nothing at least we now know someone has been experimenting with Hollowfication once more, there haven’t been many leads but today 7 more people have disappeared from rukongai through the same process. One more barely survived the process. It seems that whoever is doing this is getting better at it.”

Shiha turns around “and what would you have me do now sit around and wait while more innocent people lose their souls to this abomination. Sit around and let more people be turned into vaizards like yourself. None of them will have the will to push that being into submission like you have.”

“I would have you look for this bastard and if you find him kill him if at all possible, but for him to survive the tremendous stress this process puts on the user he must have a lot of endurance. So if you do find this guy I want you to contact me immediately and I will do the same for you if I find him. He deserves worse that what the central 46 wants to do to him. If it’s anything like the last time, it is probably someone from the 13 court guard squads… probably a lieutenant or a captain.”

“To tell you the truth Ryuuza I don’t think these are a new set of experiments. We never caught the original person who was doing this we assume he is dead because his riatsu disappeared and we found his clothes in the same fashion as the others who had gone through Hollowfication. We just assumed that his experiments had gone awry and had taken him over as well… I guess we were wrong in our assessment.”

Chapter 3

The Dead Return to the Living

Since his early days many thousands of years have passed leaving him unchanged from his 32nd name day, although he acts more mature now many people still call him Shorty his old nickname from years long since past. Friends and lovers disappeared along the many ages of his life, nothing ever changed in his life until one day a strange man bumped into him on a subway train when it crashed into a car stuck on the rails and their bodies merged into one. A single body now has 2 minds, one a calm collected man the other a serial killer on the run from several government organizations. Neither has full control of the domain in which they reside. A man entered the world of the Living at the time of this occurrence. A man wearing a mask of bone stained red from the blood of thousands of his own people. A gate closes behind him sealing the portal between the World of the Dead and the World of the Living for a thousand years. He looks around finding…

Chapter 4

A lifelong friendship broken

Hane Tenshi looked at her friend in disbelief as her friend Emi Tentei fell to the ground cut in half before her very eyes. As Emi fell her mouth foamed with blood with her ever present reassuring smile turning to disbelief she hit the ground hard and called out to Hane, “run…” at that moment a hole appeared in her chest above her heart and she died instantly. Hane stared on in horror as her friend began to disappear bite-by-bite, limb-by-limb. Before her friend had been fully devoured by the invisible demon she turned and ran. As she was running she bumped into something soft, she fell flat on her face and stopped moving. Several hours later she regained consciousness. She was laying in a bed, her bed she realized, “was that a dream?” she felt her head and found blood crusted there she looked at her shirt and found it was covered in blood as well, she looked around the room and saw something that hadn’t been there when she had left with Emi a phone. She picked it up and it began to ring. “Should I answer this? I mean it’s not mine.” A voice in the back of her head prompted her to answer the call. “Hello?”

“You are lucky to be alive, Hane Tenshi” a voice said to her through the phone.

“WHO IS THIS AND WHERE IS EMI” she yelled into the receiver. In answer she heard a faint click. She heaved a long sigh and pulled her own cell phone out of her pocket and called her friend Emi’s house and her mother answered. “Is this Hane? Where are you Where’s my daughter?”

Chapter 5

The hunt begins

Ryuuza and Shiha walk to the Squad One barracks to find that everybody had already assembled. “Ryuuza Shiha, come have a seat.” As soon as they sat in their respective seating placements the man at the head of the table began to speak “as you know we have been looking into leads about the culprit behind the Hollowfication incidents. We have come up with a location that we believe they may be hiding. We would like you to take 4 squads there to investigate. You will be in command of the forces including the captains that are in charge of those squads.” The old man looks towards Ryuuza “we already know that it has happened to you Ryuuza Kasane. The only reason we permit you to live on with us is because we believe that you may be the key to defeating this person.” Ryuuza and Shiha look at each other nodding they look back at the head of the table “the five of you are dismissed” Ryuuza, Shiha, Kasukain Riko, Sakaren Tenku, Vinzuki Nikkori begin to rise from their seats.
Ryuuza looks at the man sitting at the head of the table “you said there would be four squads. Who is the last captain?”

The old man smiles and stands up “that would be me.”

Shiha, Kasukain, Sakaren, Vinzuki all stand mouths agape staring at the old man as he rises from the table looking at the other captains “you are to keep Seireitei safe while we are away.

“But Captain Commander Senzaikyou” Shiha stutters.

“No buts Shiha. I am going with you. Now follow me to the meeting area.”

Ryuuza and Shiha share one last glance at each other before the 6 men walk towards the door the captain still at the table stand and salute those who may not ever return drawing their swords and holding them in a position of great respect to the friends and brothers that they may never see again.

Chapter 6

The Hunting Party Assembles

Senzaikyou Kanishreni leads the group to an old dilapidated building the size of a large castle on the outskirts of the Seireitei. When they walk inside there are several thousand men watching the entrance at the sight of Ryuuza and the other captains they all draw their zanpaktou holding them in front of them in salute.

Several hours later the large group was standing on a hill outside of a small town on Earth looking down they saw fire spewing from random spots on several buildings as if they were breathing fire out of an unseen mouth.

As the raiding party looks down several men walk out of some of the buildings and look directly at them. Drawing swords from different holding places they run towards the group swords changing shape and bonelike masks pulled down over their faces. The small party reaches the group of men on the hill cutting into their ranks like a hot knife through butter.

Ryuuza suddenly appears in front of one of them a shadow of him still standing at the back of the ranks and the man in front of him falls to his knees the sword in his hands dropping to the ground

“How the hell…” was all he could get out before a massive amount of blood spurts from his jugular vein.

The others of his group look at him and Shiha, Kasukain, Sakaren, Vinzuki, and Senzaikyou appear in front of them cutting them down in a little longer time than it took Ryuuza.

Looking over at the other captains he calls out “Captain Commander look out” Ryuuza suddenly appears on the right side of Senzaikyou sword held up in front of him as a large spear hits his left arm “Damn.” Shiha vanishes and after a couple minutes he comes walking out of the woods carrying a limp form.

“Well at least we know they were here at one point in time” Senzaikyou said looking at several dozen of the men “take this one back to the Seireitei see if they cant get some information out of him. If not kill him we don’t need enemies behind us.” The men nod and they take the body from Shiha and vanish.

“Alright lets go” Shiha and Ryuuza say in unison the group suddenly vanish from the hill and appear almost randomly places around the first building as several hundred men suddenly rush from the building white masks pulled down over their faces. As they burst from the building a large explosion racks the small town sending dust and smoke and fire through out the streets. Several divisions fall as the mask clad men dash furiously forward slicing through the shinigami like an angry dragon through a group of mortals. Only the higher ranks can even stand up to these powerful enemies. Thinking quickly Ryuuza calls out to the lower ranks “retreat now stay in large groups and make sure nobody escapes”

Following his orders the men spin on their heels ignoring the attacks coming from behind them leaving the fight as quickly as their bodies could move. One man stays holding his sword boldly in front of him. 12 of the mask clad men appear around him and the man looks around him smirking. “Come at me all at once if you dare.” Seeing the lone soldier Ryuuza flashes to his side.

“WHAT ARE YOU DOING I SAID RETREAT!” Ryuuza yells at the soldier. Standing back to back now the masked men charge forward in unison pinning down Ryuuza but somehow going right through the other man.

“sea of lightning surround me now, ocean of ice destroy my enemies, sky of fire rain down upon those against me, wind become my shield Sekiat show your true face amongst these infidels” the blade in the mans hand glows bright surrounding him in a swirl of energy. As the energy blows outward the fires around the town suddenly turn to ice finally noticing that Ryuuza is pinned under all the masked enemies the man turns around swinging his blade seemingly missing the men. As his sword finished its shining arc several of the men on top of Ryuuza burst into flame some suddenly glow with the arc of electricity a few turn to solid ice and the rest are cut by invisible winds.

Staring up at the man Ryuuza looks puzzled by how quickly the men on top of him stopped moving. Staring at the man and the rainbow colored blade in his hand “What is your rank and name soldier?”
“Fourth seat Tenzran Aizakawa at your service.”

Chapter 7

The Dead reveal themselves again

Sakaren Tenku surveys the area around him carefully drawing his sword once more the enemies around him completely surrounding him on all sides. There are over 100 of them. As one of them begins charging the other part turn and leave the one charging suddenly turns to dust. Sakaren looks on the face of the man who caused them to leave their advantageous positions around him, noticing that he is not wearing a mask like the others although a sword hangs by his waist, another on his back both still sheathed. The sword on his back is pure black the one by his waist is of the purest white. Looking up the man speaks “do not bother telling me your name. You are going to die here”

Sakaren suddenly realizes who the man was. His old captain was standing in front of him for the first time in over a thousand years. “Why are you here? Why did you leave?

Looking around him the man picks up a blade from one of the men Sakaren had killed. Hefting the massive blade like it was made of paper and not a solid metal unknown to most mortals.

“Good bye” the man plunged the blade in the back of Sakarens skull up to its massive hilt the blade coming out of Sakaren’s left eye socket was thinner than the blade had been a moment ago. The entire blade now seemed to have shrunk. Sakaren coughs up blood and falls to his knees.

“Capt.…” was all that left his mouth as he died.

Chapter 8

A Captain Falls

Looking around Ryuuza thanks the fourth seat. drawing his own zanpaktou now. he notices the energy of one of the captains fading "Tenzran come with me now" nodding the fourth seat somehow keeps up with Ryuuza as they head towards the fading energy.

as the two shinigami reach the point where the fading energy was strongest they see a man clad in pure white standing behind Captain Sakaren Tenku. as the pair approaches the man vanishes the captain sluching forward Ryuuza sprints forward catching the captain before he hit the ground.

feeling something wet hit his shoulder he props the captain up and thats when he sees the point of the sword coming out of Sakarens left eye. looking back at Tenzran "find Shiha. tell him the first has fallen. tell him we need to regroup"

"but shouldnt we stay together?"

Ryuuza looks back down to Sakaren before responding "you can take care of yourself and somebody needs to stay here with Sakaren so they cant take his body for expiriments. now go"

Nodding Tenzran starts running in the last known location of Shiha. quickly finding him he runs up to him whispering the message in his ear.

Several minutes later the remaining Captains gather around Sakaren's now stiff body.

Chapter 9

the Burial of a Friend

The Captains gathered the men assembled in rows behind them Ryuuza pays his respects to his fallen brother he turns at the sound of a voice. a female voice from a long time ago calling out to him alone. turning around he see's a beautiful woman pushing through the ranks of soldiers standing behind their commanders. with a twitch of Ryuuza's fingers the men part for her to pass.

"Ryu Ri, its been so long"

"Makato. what are you doing here?" Ryuuza holds his hand up signaling to go on with the ceremony and the two walk out in the direction Makato Inugashi had come from.

"I came to help Ryu Ri" Makato grabs onto a small tree and spins around it and grabs onto Ryuuza and hugs him tight to her

Tenzran walks up from behind Ryuuza "sir you we need you"

Makato lets go of Ryuuza and her face turns a deep red and she turns around quickly. Ryuuza looks back at the fourth seat "what is it Tenzran?"

"we need you for the final burial sir"

"burn his body with Sekiat Tenzran"

"but sir" Tenzran begins saying

"no Tenzran. this is the highest honor we can give him here. burn him"

"yes sir" Tenzran turns around "you would think i would have remembered that. sea of lightning surround me now, ocean of ice destroy my enemies, sky of fire rain down upon those against me, wind become my shield Sekiat show your true face amongst these comrades and show respect to those that have fallen" in the midst of the soldiers Sakaren's body suddenly glows yellow with the dance of lightning surrounding him as 4 pillars of ice form at the points of his body forming a incomplete plus sign, wind begins to swirl around the pinnacle's of those pillars as a large sphere of fire firms high above in the exact middle "send this fallen friend onward towards a better place, Sekiat" closing his eyes the giant ball of fire crashes onto Sakaren's body incinerating it instantly just as a blood stained gray mask of bone appears on his face.

spinning around Ryuuza dashes away from Makato to where Sakaren had been laying. turning to Senzaikyo "is that what i thought it was sir"

looking directly into Ryuuza's eyes Senzaikyo nods "I'm afraid it was Ryuuza. it seems this place still has some way of turning us into them"

a load roar shakes the forest around them and every man gathered draws their swords as the leaves of the tree's catch fire "the hell" in unison all the captains look around for the source of the fire. as a large group of masked men wearing the shinigami uniform pour from the burning treetops they begin cutting down the lower ranked men.

as more of the shinigami begin to fall the captains and Tenzran form up back to back slashing out at the enemies that come within range "what the hell is causing this" Ryuuza yells out. before anyone can answer an explosion of energy nearly knocks the group over turning his head towards the direction the explosion came from a horrified look plays over Ryuuza's face and he calls out to the group "form up now" speeding off the after image of him fades and the group fills the gap almost instantly "SHEAR AND TEAR KAGENAITO" the now familiar demonic black spiked armor forms over his body and the blade disappears and he pulls in the spikes a sheath forms at his side and he places the blade there running his left hand over his balled right hand he moves it outward away from the arm and the armor forms a thin curved blade as several of the masked shinigami charge at him he slashes out at them and the blade extends to shatter the mask then shrinking back to original size. each time he breaks a mask the man wearing it bursts into flames and disappears quickly getting to the spot where he left Makato he finds he punching a hole in the face of one of the friends now turned enemies a sword sticking out of anthers right eye "guess i didn't need to worry about you after all"

"its good that you came though. i was getting worried about you." beaming a smile at him eyes closed one of the masked men jumps towards her thinking he can catch her off guard she spins jumping up above it and slams the back of her foot onto its skull shattering it instantly and causing it to burst into flame she rips the blade out of the others eye and it bursts into flame as well "seems these aren't even worth fighting even" a purple aura surrounds her and the 3 dozen others crash to the ground forming small craters where they land as they burst into flame as well. it takes all of Ryuuza's willpower to stay on his feet

"I see you have gotten stronger since our last fight Makato"

The other captains walk up behind Ryuuza.

Chapter 10

The Hunting Party Lost

Senzaikyo looks at Ryuuza with a tear in his eye "I'm afraid we were not able to save any but ourselves"

"we should end this quickly. i would like to request Tenzran be promoted to Captain and be put in Sakaren's open position" Ryuuza says looking at Senzaikyo with a serious expression on his face

"and what makes you think he deserves such a position young one?" Senzaikyo responds the other captains are now staring at Ryuuza dumbfounded

"he has proven himself time and again that he is well worthy of the position. and i can sense something older than you in him as well sir. something much older and much more powerful than any of us here" Ryuuza looks at Tenzran then back at the Captain Commander

"it is true he has proven himself strong but what makes you think he is stronger than any of us"

"I'm sorry i worded that wrong sir. i meant to say he is stronger than all of us put together. but I'm afraid it is not my place to say why i believe this. if he wishes to make known this truth then it is up to him"

"I will not reveal anything Ryuuza. and i dont want to spot" Tenzran says calmly

"regardless of whether you want the spot you are getting it." Senzaikyo rests a hand on Tenzran's shoulder "you are now the new Captain of squad 11" Senzaikyo turns to Makato "now on to other business. what is it that you are doing here Makato Inugashi? shouldn't you be in bed resting."

"i was released Sir. they said i was all better" Makato replies

"very well. i guess we cant exactly send you back anyway" Senzaikyo looks around them at the burning branches above them "we should move from this place" as he says the this fire suddenly goes out and a large swarm of white masked crows begins to swirl around them trying to peck the flesh from their bones.

"all of you get out of here now. ill take care of these guys" Tenzran reaches over his right shoulder and pulls a long blade from out of thin air leaving the sword at his waist in its sheath "GO NOW ILL BE FINE" turning back to the swarm of masked craws Tenzran pulls the blade at his waist out in reverse to the back of the blade is running along his arm. "sea of lightning surround me now, ocean of ice destroy my enemies, sky of fire rain down upon those against me, wind become my shield Sekiat show your true face amongst these infidels" energy begins to ripple around him as the other back away slowly, however Ryuuza moves up to stand right next to Tenzran's side.

leaning in close Ryuuza uses the metal of his armor to form a dome over the group and leans in to Tenzran whispering in his ear "we both know that there are too many for any one of us. are you sure you can handle them"

Tenzran looks at Ryuuza "you had confidence in me despite my current rank. allow me to repay the favor by getting rid of these foul beasts. now get back. i haven't used this power in quite some time"

stepping backwards the metal of the dome shatters outwards sending shards towards the crows distracting them for the instant it takes for the group to get away.

looking up towards the sky it begins to darken "not this time brother. this time i am staying." lightning begins to spark in the air as the temperature rapidly drops "I SAID NO" a shock wave ripples out from around Tenzran as his body begins to glow a deep purple. the crows sensing the great energy begin to swarm around him forming a large sphere around him but for some reason they actually begin to move further away from him until suddenly a massive bolt of lightning crashes down all around them vaporizing all of them and revealing a sphere of ice beneath that shatters revealing Tenzran unconscious.
